We have recoloured our popular Shoormal collection in a softer, new blue.
These shoreline-related capes and scarves are now available in shaela blue with moonlit sand.

Shoormal is the Shaetlan word for the high tide mark, or the space between high and low tide.
The new blue for our Shoormal collection, shaela blue, has echoes of the blue-greys we see on the beach here in Hoswick.

Shaela is a Shaetlan word for blueish grey and, in Katie's family, it's also used for a particular type of mist that settles in the evening... the kind you don't want to descend on your washing!
Our new shaela blue is definitely more blue than it is grey, but it does have a misty quality that is familiar from observing our surroundings.

The pattern that flows through the Shoormal collection has its origins in a group of monoprints made by Niela at the Highland Print Studio, Inverness.

It wasn't until much later – when she was looking through knitted samples derived from her prints – that Niela found herself seeing a parallel with the beach at Hoswick.

In the shoormal at Hoswick.
The prints developed into a collection that feels very much of the Hoswick shore.

Capes and scarves are in the online shop now.
Our full Shoormal collection will follow in this new colourway – we make wraps and two styles of jumper (standard length plus longer line tunics). Do let us know if you are interested in these.
NB photographs on some products have not yet been updated with the new colourway.
