From May, through summer (and during Shetland Wool Week) we are open daily. In autumn, winter and early spring we have shorter standard hours.

ADDITIONAL HOURS & OPENINGS
- Shetland Arts & Crafts Xmas Fair: we'll be there! 7-9 November at Clickimin Centre, Lerwick. Find us in the main hall. The studio shop will be closed while we are in Lerwick.
- Christmas: we run special events in the run up to Christmas. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook, or sign up to our Newsletter for the latest news.
- Book a time to suit you: we are also delighted to open by appointment, just get in touch to arrange a visit – whether you are an individual or a group. There is no obligation to buy!
- Out of hours: if you're passing by on other days, and the sign is up to say we're open, ring the bell and we'll pop over from the workshop. There is no obligation to buy – we'll be delighted to see you.

- Shetland Wool Week: during Shetland Wool Week we extend our hours further – and also run a programme of free events in Hoswick. You can browse the Nielanell at Shetland Wool Week 2025 programme to get a sense of what's on.
Special events and opening
The studio also opens through the year for special events, and we take Nielanell on the road locally and further afield to fairs and pop-ups (the annual Shetland Arts & Crafts Association Christmas Fair is a big date in the calendar). Please follow us on social media, or subscribe to our newsletter to hear the latest.
Shetland Wool Week and other festivals
The studio shop is open daily during Shetland Wool Week (which usually straddles the last week of September and the first week of October). In 2025, we had a programme of free events.
There are several other festivals through the year in Shetland. For any special events that fall between October and April (for example, Lerwick Up Helly Aa in January and Shetland Folk Festival in May) we usually have expanded opening times – we'll have details on this page in advance of the festivities, and on social media.
Accessibility
The studio shop is a small space on one level. Our wide door is accessible for visitors with wheelchairs. We are situated a short distance from Hoswick Visitor Centre, which is accessible for wheelchair users and has a café and an accessible toilet.
There is car parking at Hoswick Visitor Centre but, if you need to, it's usually possible to park or drop off just outside our studio shop.

Directions
From Sandwick, head to Hoswick.
The studio shop is a small white building and is just around the corner from the old Gospel Hall (wooden building with rusted tin roof). We are on the left hand side of the main street of Hoswick—just before Laurence Odie Knitwear and the Hoswick Visitor Centre (which has ample parking).
Transport
The studio is in Hoswick, near Sandwick in south Mainland. Buses from Lerwick to Sandwick take 30 minutes, then a 10 minute walk to Nielanell. Ask the driver to let you off by the Sandwick shop or Sandwick Hall.
