But our Saand holiday jumper has become so popular with our customers looking for an airy, lighter knit to be worn in summer or year-round in warmer climates.
The Saand holiday jumper has an easy but elegant shape, nearly batwing, with neat cuffs and rib detail for interest and shape. The gentle stitch pattern is called moss or seed stitch, but it reminds us of the large-grained sand down on the beach here in Hoswick (saand is the Shetland word for sand).
There is something about the breezy relaxed shape that said HOLIDAY to us, when we were prototyping. However, we know that these jumpers are very happy to be worn at home—and even at work.
There is something wonderful about the extra-fine merino yarn when it is knitted up in this stitch pattern—the colours really sing. The texture is the perfect vehicle for one colour of this luxurious yarn, which we source from the finest mills in Italy.

Katie has just added a new selection of colours to our online boutique: from jewel tones to zingy citrus. We make these in very small batches…they don’t hang around.
Like all Nielanell knitwear, the Saand jumpers are made in Shetland by the skilled local craftspeople for which our islands are world-renowned. We finish each jumper by hand in the Nielanell studio in Hoswick.
